Full Screen Slider/Hero Section

From here you can add up to three rotating sliders (or one single hero section) which are displayed full screen, and automatically resized to fit the device being viewed on.

Default Slider Background Image

As of Exoplanet version 1.4.2 you can upload your own default slider background image. If you are not using the latest version, please consider updating from your dashboard Appearance > Themes

You have a choice of overlay patterns and you can also change the darkness of your slider background images. If you don’t want to use an overlay pattern select ‘None’. The darkness can be adjusted from 0 which will display your image with no darkness effect, up to 100 which will display as totally black. The overlay pattern and darkness setting is applied to all three of the slides.

For each slide, select a page. The slide will display the Title, Excerpt and Featured Image of the selected page.
For the featured image, we recommend a minimum image size of 1600px x 900px to ensure that it will scale well on all screen sizes.

In the page editor for the page you have selected, enter;

  1. Title
  2. Excerpt
  3. Upload a Featured Image

The page Title, Excerpt and Featured Image will be displayed on your site as shown in the image below.

We have to do it this way so that the theme will be accepted onto wordpress.org as the WordPress theme requirements do not allow themes to upload images directly to the slider in the customizer.
This would be regarded as content creation, which only plugins (not themes) should be allowed to do.

Slide Buttons

You also have two buttons on each slide. For each button you can select a page to link to and enter the text you wish to display in the button.
If you only want to show one button, simply leave either the left or right button text empty.
To display no buttons, leave both text areas empty.

Featured Services

This section will show your four latest blog posts by default. You can choose not to show this area on your home page by checking the box next to ‘Disable Featured Section’.

To set your own featured services and override the latest posts, you should select a page for at least the first feature from the dropdown selector. You can choose from 1 to 4 features to display on your home page and they will be scaled across the width of the page accordingly.

You can choose an icon to display with each feature from the dropdown selector. The icons are rendered using the FontAwesome icon set. For a full list of available icons please see here.

The title of each feature is taken from the title of the page you have selected.

The text below the title is taken from the excerpt of your chosen page, if you have entered an excerpt for that page. If the excerpt is empty it will display a short snippet of your page content.

A clickable ‘Read More’ button can be displayed when your visitors hover over each feature. To enable this make sure you have checked the box next to ‘Enable Read More Buttons’.

Exoplanet Featured Services

About Us Section

By default this displays a random post. To override this, select a page from the dropdown selector. The middle text displays the excerpt of your chosen page, if you have added an excerpt. The image is the featured image for that page. If you have not uploaded an image in the ‘Featured Image’ section of your chosen page, the default Exoplanet placeholder image will be displayed.

If you do not wish to display this section, make sure you check the box next to ‘Disable About Us Section’.

Exoplanet About Us Section

Call-to-action Panel

Similar to the ‘About Us Section’ you can choose a page from the dropdown selector and enter your own text to be used for the button link.
The text below the title will display the excerpt of your chosen page.

If you cannot see an area to enter an excerpt in the page editor, click ‘Screen Options’ in the top right and make sure the ‘Excerpt’ checkbox is checked.
