    The theme preview shows the ability to have social icons in menus, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to do this within the menu admin. Does this theme not support social icons/links?

    Yes the theme does support social icons/links in the footer menu.
    It works in the same way as the Exoplanet theme, please see the documentation here for detailed instructions.
